What is CBD? CBD is the acronym used for Cannabidiol. It is one of over 100 naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds found in the hemp plant. Hemp may be similar to marijuana, but there are also vast differences. While both plants have CBD and THC in them, THC is the part of the cannabis plant that has a psychoactive result. Hemp has a THC percentage of less than 0.3%. This means that hemp-derived CBD will not have the “high” feeling that you might get with THC.
In the United States, once the 2018 Farm Bill was passed, hemp went from being classified as a controlled substance to being accepted as an agricultural commodity on a national level.
The human body produces its own cannabinoids which are a part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is made up of three parts: Cannabinoid receptors, endogenous cannabinoids and the enzymes that are responsible for making and breaking down the cannabinoids in the body.
The ECS is involved in communicating with nearly every system of the body including the Central Nervous System, Immune System and various organs. The Cannabinoid CBD binds with the receptors in our own bodies, like puzzle pieces fitting together.
